Possibly your best ever. At worst second-best. The first and second have a definite living-in-Maine quality, a level of detail that requires constrained environment and unconstrained leisure time. I detect an obvious Fiery Furnaces influence in the keyboards on #2 (childlike, whimsical, meandering). Tell us more about the circumstances of making these.

These were created a while ago, I’m not sure when, but before thanksgiving, before Maine. I needed to push them out of the way because they were old. There are a few more like ‘em. I know the first one was written first thing in the morning, and the third at night. I can’t tell you much more; I discover these already partially formed in my garageband folder, with titles like ‘song 6′ or ‘tuesday,’ and spend a lot more time listening to them than I do creating them. The second came out of some noodling when I was preparing to do those FF covers which are still on the back burner. I found a teach yourself Japanese tape in my iTunes, but never really figured out how I wanted to use it – as a story, or for the musicality of the speech. I lost the momentum, and here it lies.
