]]> http://maybemaybemaybemaybe.com/457/feed/ 2 Challenges http://maybemaybemaybemaybe.com/challenges/ http://maybemaybemaybemaybe.com/challenges/#comments Sat, 20 Sep 2008 17:37:54 +0000 Gxxx http://maybemaybemaybemaybe.com/?p=209 Making listenable loop-based music takes a lot of work.  To keep it interesting, you either need to create a loop with a couple decent variations and then throw some vocals on top for distraction, or you need to constantly pump in new hooks, strategically removing and adding back in the things you want to hear, and also switching, with varying degrees of abruptness, to new layers that take the music in an unexpected direction.*  I haven’t yet made anything that does this well.  Here’s the one I’m working on now.

Which then became this:

Still need at least 3 or four more variations and a new melody or two if I want to add vocals, and maybe a dozen new parts if it’s going to stand up on its own.  Which, all i’m saying is, it’s a lot to do.  So I’m challenging myself, here, in public, to do it.  Updates to come.
